Blind dates for books? What happens when publications from two authors meet on your bookshelf? Do they have anything to talk about? Anything in common? Ana Marwan’s second novel ’Verpuppt‘ and Georgi Gospodinov’s International Booker Prizes-winning ‘Time Shelter’ are both novels that speak, in one way or another, about the stories we tell ourselves and believe in and the narratives we perpetuate to shape the world around us: by clinging to a glorious merry old past and / or by deceiving ourselves about the present and future.
Georgi Gospodinov will be tomorrow in conversation with Vladislav Bajac at Kulturni centar GRAD. The Serbian translation of ‘Time Shelter’ by Jasmina Jovanović was published by Izdavačka Kuća Geopoetika. TRADUKI supported the translations into Slovenian (Borut Omerzel, Beletrina) and Croatian (Ksenija Banović, Fraktura – najbolja literatura).
Marwan’s publications include ‘Der Kreis des Weberknechts’ (Daddy Longlegs’ Circle) and ‘Zabubljena’ (Pupated). She won the 2022 Ingeborg Bachmann Prize with her piece ‘Wechselkröte’ (Green Toad) and is the current editor of Literatur und Kritik magazine.
