In this Esperanto grammar lesson, we learn which verb to use when talking about watching a movie. Similar verbs often get used there in its place which can lead to confusion since the sentence could still be correct grammatically yet have an entirely different meaning. Make sure to use spekti for when you watch a play or a television show and only use vidi or rigardi when talking about glimpsing, staring, glancing, or having a good view.
We can passively view a screen without watching a film. That’s why vidi and spekti have different meanings.
We can stare at a book without actually reading it. That’s the difference between rigardi and legi.
We can hear a song without listening to it. That’s where aŭdi and aŭskulti differ.
In short, whenever you talk about enjoying a particular art form like a book, song, or movie, make sure the proper verb is being used.
