This film was made for the Kick The Ladder filmmaking challenge during the World Esperanto Congress or Universala Kongreso de Esperanto (UK) in Graz, Austria in August 2026.
The rules were make a film up to one minute long in one week that features two locations and includes an instance of directly addressing the camera or “breaking the fourth wall” as they say in the theatre world.
Translating for a tour guide from English to Esperanto on a congress excursion where half the bus was in Austria and the other half was in Slovenia seemed like an interesting way to complete the challenge.
Many more things were filmed at that conference on my phone but I had to hurry and edit this one first because KTL is a weekly challenge with new rules each time so I edited it together while taking the train from Graz to Vienna to fly back home to the US because the deadline was 11:48 pm (EST) on August 10th.
Anyone (especially Esperanto speakers) from anywhere in the world can create an account and make KTL microfilms for free on the website https://kicktheladder.com/ whenever they want.
