Είναι άγνωστο για πολλούς αυτό το καταπληκτικό δωδεκαμελές Βελγο-Αγγλικό progressive rock συγκρότημα της δεκαετίας του ’70 που ακούει στο όνομα Esperanto και ξεκίνησε το 1971, από τον βιολιστή Raymond Vincent (αρχηγό των Wallace Collection).
Το 1975, για τις ανάγκες του τρίτου και τελευταίου άλμπουμ τους με τίτλο “Last Tango”, διασκεύασαν το τραγούδι Eleanor Rigby των Beatles. Η ηχογράφηση του άλμπουμ έγινε εν μέρει στο Λονδίνο και εν μέρει στο διάσημο πύργο του Herouville κοντά στο Παρίσι, όπου οι Jethro Tull, Elton John και πολλοί άλλοι ηχογραφούσαν τη δεκαετία του εβδομήντα.
Στην εξαιρετική αυτή διασκευή οι Εsperanto αποδόμησαν πλήρως το αρχικό τραγούδι, το οποίο μέχρι το τρίτο λεπτό του είναι πραγματικά αγνώριστο, κάνοντας το κυριολεκτικά δικό τους, βάζοντας λίγο από τον εαυτό και την ψυχή τους σε αυτή τους την προσπάθεια.
Μία λεπτομέρεια είναι ότι οι Esperanto είναι ένα συγκρότημα χωρίς κιθάρες, οι οποίες έχουν αντικατασταθεί με τσέλο και βιολιά, προσφέροντας ένα εξαιρετικό και πιο “επιθετικό” αποτέλεσμα. Προσωπικά δεν μου λείπουν καθόλου οι κιθάρες και πραγματικά λατρεύω την κυριαρχία του βιολιού και του τσέλο σε αυτή τη διασκευή.
Εν κατακλείδι, εκτιμώ ότι ολόκληρο το άλμπουμ είναι ένα αριστουργηματικό progressive rock και αξίζει τον κόπο να το ακούσετε!
Εδώ η διασκευή του Eleanor Rigby, που προσωπικά την προτιμώ κατά πολύ από την αρχική εκτέλεση των Βeatles και αποτελεί (για μένα) την καλύτερη από τις 674 διασκευές που έχουν γίνει στο συγκεκριμένο τραγούδι και ίσως μία από τις καλύτερες διασκευές στην ιστορία της ροκ.
Many people are unfamiliar with this amazing twelve-member Belgian-English progressive rock band from the 70s called Esperanto, which was formed in 1971 by violinist Raymond Vincent (leader of the Wallace Collection).
In 1975, for the needs of their third and final album entitled “Last Tango”, they covered the Beatles’ song Eleanor Rigby. The album was recorded partly in London and partly at the famous Herouville chateau near Paris, where Jethro Tull, Elton John and many others recorded in the seventies.
In this excellent cover, Esperanto completely deconstructed the original song, which until its third minute is truly unrecognizable, making it literally their own, putting a little of themselves and their soul into this effort.
One detail is that Esperanto is a band without guitars, which have been replaced with cellos and violins, offering an excellent and more “aggressive” result. Personally, I don’t miss the guitars at all and I really love the dominance of the violin and cello in this arrangement.
In conclusion, I consider the entire album to be a masterpiece of progressive rock and it is worth listening to!
Here is Eleanor Rigby’s arrangement, which I personally much prefer to the original Beatles performance and is (for me) the best of the 674 arrangements that have been made of this song and perhaps one of the best arrangements in the history of rock.
